I disagree that children do not need to play a part in Total Defence. Singapore has ,so far, been very safe and has made no enemies --- well, Malaysia is sort of ..... angry with Singapore for doing land reclaimation, but you and I know that there are probably no countries preparing to declare war with Singapore. However, we must still be prepared in case a country really does declare war, which is why the government makes sure that there would be strong, trained and ready-to-fight soldiers by making sure every teenage boy that reaches 17 or 18 ( I am not sure ) must join the army and service. I know that most guys do NOT like the army, but it is just for the safety of the citizens of Singapore. But, that is only a few years later. Now, we can play a part in Total Defence by the following ways......
- When it is Total Defence Day, please DO NOT say something like : I don't like the rationing of food!!! This would be the food we eat when there is war and food is limited.
- We must take the evacuation exercises seriously, and not fool around.
- When you go abroad, please do not make fun of that country, for fear that they may have a grudge gainst Singapore. ( AND IT IS ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!!!)
- We must always be ready to fight for Singapore
Total Defence.
